The ancient technique of Meditation

What is meditation?

You may have wondered about the meaning of meditation, so in this article you will find all about meditation.

To begin with, we can say that meditation is a scientific method whose main objectives are:

  • Therapy: to develop physical, mental, emotional and psychological well-being. Meditation reduces stress, relieves tension and helps to treat psychological illnesses such as depression and anxiety.
  • Self-awareness: understanding our psychological conflicts; awakening consciousness; living in the moment; feeling life intensely.
  • Reaching emptiness: uniting with our own consciousness to receive the teachings of our Real Inner Being.

During meditation we rest our mind in a deep state of concentration and reflection. But meditation is more than a technique, it is a state that we need to seek. It goes far beyond being silent and seeking peace. Therefore, meditation compensates for those times during the day when we were not actively conscious.

Usually, when we do this, we are actually immersed in thoughts. However, meditation is not thought. When we meditate, we are actually seeking higher states of consciousness.

Meditation is a state of consciousness.

What are the benefits of meditation in my life?

Meditation helps us to have a more balanced physical, mental, emotional and spiritual life. With the practice of Meditation, we gain more clarity about our own reality, improving our relationship with ourselves. It is the main tool for creating our own light or Inner Light. The daily practice of meditation radically transforms us. There are many advantages and benefits of this wonderful science.

  • One of these benefits is that we develop intuition. Intuition is the ability to attain direct knowledge and experience without the battle of antithesis in the intellect, without reasoning.
  • Another benefit is that we learn to overcome and avoid recurrences, problems and difficulties that mechanically repeat themselves in our lives, arising from conflicts in our inner world.
  • Meditation also improves our comprehension of the inner and outer worlds.
  • Through meditation we develop self-observation. Self-observation is the ability to observe oneself, to perceive one’s own actions, habits, words, thoughts, emotions, desires, etc.
  • We acquire self-remembrance. This is the awareness and perception of who we are, who is acting within us, our body and our actions.

The daily and constant practice of meditation is a fundamental requirement for the awakening of consciousness in our inner world.

With meditation we awaken Intuition.

How can meditation help me connect with my Inner Self?

Deep meditation can lead us to experience the Thality, that is, the Totality. Beyond the Illuminating Void and the machinery of relativity is the Thality. He who experiences the Illuminating Void, if he does not return in terror, enters into the Thality, the Ocean of Uncreated Light. This is a very simple and natural phenomenon, but a transcendental one. For a few moments the essence is liberated and can experience the Real, losing for that moment the notion of body, self, time and space. In that moment, you feel integrated with the all.

Ecstasy is a result of meditation and is achieved through great persistence and, sometimes, when you least expect it, when you least desire it. It is essential to learn to silence the mind, because inner silence gives us a unique insight into who we are, what we really know, what we really need, what we are really capable of doing. Intuition flows from the voice of silence, and a quiet mind reflects the beauty of life’s eternal truths. Meditation is a way of quieting the mind.

It is in the silence of the mind that we listen to the wisdom of our Real Inner Being.

Meditation is a way of quieting the mind.

How can I find a solution to my conflicts through meditation?

In the silence of the mind we listen to the wisdom that pulsates alive in us, in our consciousness; and so we learn to overcome, intuitively, the obstacles that life puts in our way. Meditation is the path that helps us to reach a state of wholeness, with serenity and humility.

The meditative state is the natural state of consciousness. It is putting the intellect aside and seeking silence. In this silence, we encounter our consciousness, what we really are, without concepts, without distortions and distractions of the mind.

Reflecting on a problem or question, we can find answers, insight, wisdom, guidance. If you want to seek wisdom, explore your intuition. In it, wisdom expresses itself directly, going beyond concepts and opinions.

” When the sage immerses himself in inner meditation, he is seeking information. The chakras enter into activity through meditation and convert vibrations into information”

V. M. Samael Aun Weor

What are the steps of meditation?

Meditation is a state of consciousness and that it has the following fundamental stages:

  1. Asana: posture of the physical body to achieve relaxation.
  2. Pratyahara: making the mind blank.
  3. Dharana: fixed concentration on one point, such as the heartbeat, breathing, music, etc.
  4. Dhyana: reflection in the absence of thought, state of consciousness.
  5. Samadhi: deep state of meditation.

In this state, the essence momentarily escapes from the ego and the consciousness dissolves like a drop of water in the great ocean of life. These states are achieved through daily practice and willpower. Shall we begin?

“It is necessary to place the body in the most comfortable position (ASANA), it is essential to silence the mind for concentration (PRATYAHARA), it is urgent to know how to fix the mind on one thing (DHARANA) and thus to reflect deeply on the content of the thing itself (DHYANA), by this path we arrive at ecstasy (SAMADHI)”.

V. M. Samael Aun Weor

Getting ready for meditation:

To start practising and enjoying the benefits of meditation, we also need to prepare our body:

  • Avoid meditating on a full stomach or after a meal.
  • It is preferable to do it with your eyes closed to avoid external distractions.
  • Analyse your state of mind.
  • Choose a comfortable position, sitting on the floor or in a chair, with your legs crossed and your hands on your knees.
  • Start by directing your attention to your breathing, inhaling deeply and exhaling the air slowly.
  • When you finish, do not make any sudden movements, but move gently.

When is the ideal time to start meditating?

The answer is: today. And to help you take the first step, we have compiled a few tips:

  • Start by preparing the space. Choose a clean, quiet and airy space.
  • Make sure your home is in order. This reduces the risk of worrying about leaving a pot on the stove or a door open.
  • Turn off the TV, put your mobile phone on silent mode, avoid distractions and noise.
  • The room can be scented with incense and, if desired, play quiet, peaceful classical music at low volume.
  • If you are going to meditate outside, choose safe and quiet places, such as a garden, a forest or a park

Can meditation help me activate my chakras?

Definitely. “Meditation will awaken our occult powers. Meditation produces fundamental changes in the astral body. Later on, during normal sleep, there will be moments when we will be conscious and then we will be able to say ‘I am out of the physical body, I am in the astral body’. Thus we will acquire, little by little, ‘Continuous Consciousness’. Eventually, the day will come when the student will be able to use our keys to go out at will in the astral body. He will have reconquered his lost powers”.

– V. M. Samael Aun Weor

“The combination of mantrams to develop the chakras with meditation to awaken consciousness brings about the creation of the Inner Light.”

Meditation on the Anahata chakra, the lotus flower of the heart, confers powers to travel in the astral body. We must reconquer the powers of the Heart Chakra in order to successfully use the astral keys.

How can I start meditating if I cannot control the thoughts in my mind?

You need to begin practicing concentration. Concentration helps to pave the way for meditation. So, for at least ten minutes, try to focus in one object, or element, without thinking, just putting the attention in that element. You can practice focusing for example in the beatings of your heart, as long as possible.

Other examples of concentration practices:

  1. In the heart;
  2. In the midbrow;
  3. In the present moment;
  4. In the breath;
  5. In the flame of a candle.

How often should I practice meditation?

Meditation is a practice of compensation, so we should practice it daily to compensate for our sleepiness with Consciousness and Light. Light is established with meditation, which has its basis in contemplation, adoration and consciousness, when we live in the present moment.  Wherever our consciousness is, there we are. Our inner development depends on the consciousness we are exercising here.

For how long should I meditate?

Meditation can be done as often and for as long as you like. Begin by practising for 5, 10 or 15 minutes and soon you will be able to reach half an hour, or an hour of meditation. The important thing is to take the first step.

How can I combine meditation with conscious astral projection?

Next we will tell you how you can do the practice:

  1. Find a comfortable position, so that the body is relaxed and comfortable. It can be sitting, lying down in the dead man’s position or in a star-shaped position. For us westerners, the lotus position is a little more difficult, but if your body allows you to relax in this position do as you prefer, the important thing is to reach the state of MEDITATION.
  2. In this comfortable position, breathe deeply, relax your body well. Try not to have a full stomach when meditating, especially in the evening.
  3. Concentrate on your heart, feel its beat, seek to silence the mind, pray, integrate with your Innermost: “My Father, I want to be at your feet, I want to see you, I want to hear your voice, help me…”.
  4. Utter the most tender words that come from the heart. Select one mantra you are most familiar with and practice it, combining it with MEDITATION.

For example, the MANTRAM FARAON, which is pronounced as follows: FAAAAAAAA … RAAAAAAA… ONNNNNNN … … Vocalise until you reach a state of drowsiness (between sleep and wakefulness), then stand up and jump. If you float, you are experiencing a real, conscious astral unfolding.

With faith and continuity of purpose, you will triumph!

How can prayers help me to practice meditation?

Prayer is a technique for learning to meditate. It is not about words, but feelings. Next, we will explain this practice:

Sit in a comfortable chair, close your eyes and ask your internal divine forces – your Divine Mother, your Inner Father – to guide, enlighten and protect you, and to grant you the grace to reach your goal. Then let yourself be carried by the gentleness that follows prayer, taking care not to fall asleep or the mind to start wandering..

Prayer, combined with meditation, generates deep states of self-awareness.

How can mantras help me to practice meditation?

Mantralizing is a very effective way of relaxing your body because it helps us recover the natural harmony and prepare our body for meditation. The vibrations of mantras in our physical body help us get rid of the interference of the mind and the tension accumulated in our muscles.

PRACTICE: A good relaxation of the physical body is necessary and a meditative state must be sought. The practice consists of the intelligent sequence of these magical sounds:

  • a) A long, delicate, bird-like hiss (whistling). It consists of a real and effective whistle.
  • b) Intonation of the vowel (E), thus: Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee … stretching the sound with the note RE of the musical scale.
  • c) Intonation of the consonant (R), like this: Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr … … resonating it with the B of the musical scale, imitating the high-pitched voice of a child.
  • d) Resonate the (S) very softly, like a sweet and silent hiss (whistle), like this: Ssssssssssssssssss. (This is similar to a whistle)

The Asana (or posture) is in the dorsal decubitus or dead man’s pose. The toes should be fanned out and the heles touching. The arms should be stretched out alongside the body, which should be very relaxed.

Integration with nature, sensitivity to life in all its expressions and to birds, gives us merits to succeed with this practice!
